Fairground Reminiscence is an interactive exhibition for all the family, celebrating fairground legacy. The work celebrates the extraordinary lives of showmen, fairground heritage and the communities they visit. 

For Culture Bazaar we are delighted to let you explore a some selected elements from the installation including old time favourite fairground games Tin Can Alley, One Ball in to Win and a Coconut Shy. There will be some old fairground posters, film and photographs as well as a bespoke sound score featuring showmen’s childhood memoirs and original music.

Listen to a number of showmen reminisce and share their memories of their traveling lifestyles, whilst watching a young couple meet as children on the fairground. Experience a snapshot of their life whilst they travel, play and grow older.

Once a popular medieval charter fair that lasted 45 days… 2 remembered souls enjoy another ride on the carousel, layered with moving images from 1966.

Fairground Reminiscence Workshop

An interactive workshop for parents and their children aged 2 upwards… Come play games, dance and make candyfloss whilst learning about the history and culture of fairgrounds. 

Contact Improvisation Workshop

A class open for all ages and abilities to explore the some of the fundamental skills and tools of this improvised dance technique. Led by Adam Russell.  Adam Russell is an independent dance artist based in the North of England, creating atmospheric, other worldly performance experiences for both traditional and non-traditional performance spaces inspired by communities, local people and their stories. Trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance (2012), Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (2012), the BRIT School (2007 & 2009). Notable work as a performer includes working for balletLORENT in their critically acclaimed production of Rapunzel and Darren Pritchard for Body of Light.
