A quick & easy starter using chick pea flour
Ingredients
  • 100g Gram flour
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • ½ tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1tsp Coriander powder
  • 1tsp Cumin powder
  • ½tsp Baking powder
  • 80 ml of water
  • 1 litre oil (for deep frying)
Instructions
  1. Put oil on to medium heat. Remove chip basket, or use non stick wok.
  2. Sieve gram flour & Slice onion
  3. Wash onions & separate out each strand
  4. In a bowl mix the gram flour, baking powder & spices
  5. Add onions & water then mix all ingredients together
  6. Using a spoon scoop up mixture and place in oil & deep fry for up to 5-8 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Keep turning the Pakoras for even cooking
  8. Drain excess oil on plate with kitchen paper
Notes
Halve all spices for a milder version
Alternatives:
Add 1” of Fresh Root Ginger (Grate or finely chop)
Add 2-3 cloves of (Garlic Grate or finely chop)
Add 2 Fresh green chillies (Cut off stalk and finely chop)
AND/ OR
Add a small handful of other vegetables (cubed or sliced) such as aubergine, potato, cauliflower etc.
