Adrienne Gill is the Development Officer with Carlisle One World Centre (COWC), a small local charity that has worked for 20 years to keep global issues at the heart of Carlisle life. Campaigns and projects have included Fairtrade, climate change, inequality and supporting International women living in the city.

Adrienne joined COWC 14 years ago, shortly after moving to Carlisle from her home city, Dublin, Ireland, after several years of working on development programmes in East and South Africa. She has secured funding for the centre to expand and to become a hub for the city’s local and global campaigning groups and to be in the position to respond to global issues and events whilst continuing to support Fairtrade and other core projects. Since 2015 the work of supporting refugees fleeing areas of conflict in Syria and the Middle East has been a priority area of COWC’s support with the establishment of Carlisle Refugee Action Group. Adrienne co-ordinates this group and played a proud role in Carlisle’s welcome to refugee families since 2017.

Adrienne believes “I feel privileged to be able to bring up my son here and I feel it can be a great place of welcome and sanctuary to refugees and migrants."
